Slicethepie: Can You Get Your Slice of the Pie? (Detailed Review)

It's Money Making Monday! Here's a review on Slicethepie!
Home Page

Slicethepie has a different way to earn than usual; you earn money for reviewing new music that hasn't been released yet. There are many categories of music, as well as some fashion reviews, but mostly music at this point, and the site claims they have enough music that one could review continuously without running out. This is somewhat questionable, but it's not like anyone will be testing that out, and in the end it really makes no difference. The reviews involve a rating of 1 to 10 and an explanation with feedback for the artist. This feedback is required to be a certain length, with variety, and according to other people, "different" from your previous reviews. These requirements can be quite a pain when you're using the site. How much money can you make? Let's get on to the review (Strategies here):

Payout relative to Time Spent:  0/10 (✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰)

Fundamentally there are two ways to earn from this site. You can write reviews for songs/fashion, or refer people. It isn't much variety, but the music categories cover quite a range of music. The problem with the reviews you have to write is that you have to spend an absolute minimum of 90 seconds, but in reality, it requires that you write quite a lot (for just a song), at least 50-some words, but not only that, requires "variety" and "uniqueness", which takes quite a while to actually get those requirements met. On top of that, it quite often doesn't even submit the review for an unknown reason, just loading nonstop. It eventually redirects to the home screen, not rewarding anything. You can't even copy-paste the deleted review back, because they disallow it in the HTML code. It is very inconvenient in general. That already is annoying, but to add to the annoyance, you get paid a (in my opinion, pathetic) minimal amount for your time. 5-10 minutes could get you barely anything, because it calls everything not specific enough, If you're lucky, you might get $0.10 an hour of this. That's 10 hours for 1 dollar. Worth it? I think not. They also require at least $10 to withdraw, meaning it'd take a while to actually get anything out. For these reasons, Slicethepie gets a 0/10 for Payout vs. Time Spent.

Convenience:  1/10 (★✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰)

"Not specific enough"
Convenience on the site is okay, easy to navigate and understand what's going on, but there are no links, it's all in one page, which is annoying. Also, it sometimes doesn't even load between pages, and does not even accept your review due to "not specific enough" very often. If you're lucky, you might get a minuscule payment. Good luck with that. It is a terrible experience trying to make money, even though this site was "out since 2007", meaning the screening of reviews, after 8+ years, is still horrendous, getting Slicethepie gets a 1/10 for Convenience. I've written a 600+ word review just to have it turned down due to not being "specific enough". This site is ridiculously annoying and time-wasting, not recommended.

Variety:  3/10 (★★★✰✰✰✰✰✰✰)

Music Categories (Not from Slicethepie.com)
The variety of Slicethepie is acceptable, with many genres of songs as well as some fashion things to do, but there is a big limit which is that you can only review songs or fashions for minimal payment. Unless you really enjoy it, it gets very boring in time. There could be much more inventive or creative ways to earn money off of this, such as viewing videos, liking pages, following them, giving suggestions, maybe even writing your own songs as inspiration for the singers. It gets very repetitive over time. For these reasons, Slicethepie gets a 3/10 for Variety.

Demands/Requirements: 8/10 (★★★★★★★★)

This is, honestly, the only aspect in which Slicethepie is good in. The only requirement is that you have a device and a speaker. Easy, but cannot be done in the public without headphones and a lot of typing on the phone, so it gets an 8/10 for Demands/Requirements.

Overall Rating:  3/10 (★★★✰✰✰✰✰✰✰)

"Not specific enough"
The overall rating is 3/10 for Slicethepie, which also agrees with the average of all four categories. This is due to the fact that the site hardly pays anything out, not even counting the countless obstacles to even getting a review counted for money, which is very time consuming and boring. I've written a 600+ word review just to have it turned down due to not being "specific enough". The site deserves a 3/10 for overall rating. This rating will not change until reviews actually get accepted more often.

  1. I feel this website has changed this Easter. They closed it to update it to look more modern. However all these problems didn't exist before! They seem to think answers can be quite formulaic, and the system detects that reviews are quite similar. I'm not sure why this is, because regardless of genre (even when listening to rap) I try to pick out specifics of the track that stood out, what they did well, what could be improved. To me it's as if the system is happy for you to review a couple of tracks, but not a few consecutive ones. They told me to comment on what instruments/vocals worked well, yet I could have sworn I've been doing that. So it's hard for me to know to what extent it's the lack of imagination on my part, not varying my descriptive words enough, or if they still need to improve the site. A bit ago, I couldn't get more than $0.07 for a couple of reviews and then the glitch! At least today I got two lots of $0.15. That feels like a victory under the circumstances.

    1. I'm certainly very new to this site, since it says it came out in 2007, so I cannot say for certain how it's changed. I do agree that it is extremely algorithmic and difficult to actually get paid, and when you do get paid, it's among the lowest payments for the amount of effort. I consider myself very good at music, and I know all the terms, and use them, and still haven't been able to make all that much. In response to what you said there, I'd say it's probably their algorithms. A sincere person like you has a much lower chance of being the reason than an algorithm. I don't know for certain, of course, but I feel that's most likely. Good luck with making a lot on the site, if you intend to continue with it!
